Quick answer

Who makes Polymer Hands mugs?

Polymer Hands is a small polymer clay studio in Lahore. Since 2021 we have hand-sculpted 1,000+ personalised mugs. Each figure is shaped from soft clay on a real mug, baked so it sets, painted and packed in the studio, then delivered all over Pakistan. We also teach the craft online.

Our story

Tiny figures, real people

Every Polymer Hands mug starts with a person: a couple on their nikah day, a new doctor, a dad with a baby on his shoulders, a cat that is no longer with us. You send photos and the little details, and we shape them in soft polymer clay on a real mug, then bake it so the clay sets.

We work on one side of each mug, a little thicker than the everyday kind so it survives the bake, and we send you a photo before it is dispatched. From Lahore, our parcels have gone to Karachi, Islamabad, Sialkot, Gilgit and beyond.

Alongside the mugs, we share what we know. Our clay supplies, free lessons and the online masterclass are for anyone in Pakistan who wants to make figures of their own.

The craft

How is a Polymer Hands mug made?

Polymer clay stays soft until it is baked, which is what lets us take our time over the details. Every order starts with a plain glossy or matte mug and clay in the colours of your people. Each figure is built up by hand, piece by piece: the body, the clothes, the hands, the hair, then the small things that make it theirs, like a stethoscope, a cricket bat or a pet’s markings.

Our mugs are a little thicker than everyday ones on purpose. After decorating, each mug is baked for about an hour so the clay sets hard, and a thicker wall is less likely to crack in that heat. Because the mug is baked with the figures on it, the design goes on one side, where every piece can be supported while it sets.

Our usual style is a blank face or a figure seen from the back, so the outfit, pose and hair do the talking; cartoon faces are made on request. The finest details, like eyes, buttons and tiny letters, are painted with a fine brush. Then we photograph the finished mug and send it to you before it is dispatched, so you see exactly what is coming.

What 1,000+ mugs have taught us

  • A photo before dispatch builds trustA customer who had just been scammed by another page asked if the mug would really look like the picture. We sent a photo first; she has ordered three times since.Read the story of a first-time buyer
  • Be honest about deadlinesA public holiday announced overnight once paused our dispatch for a day. We tell you honestly about a close date before you order, and keep you posted if anything changes.Read the engagement anniversary story
  • Make it right when a parcel breaksCouriers aren’t always gentle. When a mug arrives broken, we remake it free, and once even moved the original figures onto fresh mugs.Read the free remake story
