Care guide
Looking after your clay mug
Your figures are polymer clay, baked once in our studio so they set firm. With gentle care, your mug will keep looking the way it did on the day it arrived.

Quick answer
Is a polymer clay mug microwave or dishwasher safe?
No. A polymer clay figurine mug should not go in the microwave, oven or dishwasher. You can drink from it, because the figures sit on the outside, but wash it by hand with warm soapy water and a soft sponge, wiping gently around the clay, and hold it by the handle.
Is a clay mug microwave or dishwasher safe?
- No microwaveNot even for a few seconds.
- No ovenKeep it away from direct heat.
- No dishwasherStrong jets and detergents are hard on clay.
We bake every mug once, in the studio, so the clay sets properly. After that it isn’t made to go back into heat: extra heating and harsh washing can loosen, crack or discolour the small clay pieces.
How do I wash a clay mug by hand?
- 1
Rinse it soon after use
So tea and coffee don’t dry inside. - 2
Warm, soapy water and a soft sponge
Skip scourers, steel wool and the rough side of a sponge. - 3
Wipe gently around the figures
Wash the inside normally; on the outside, wipe around the clay rather than scrubbing across it. - 4
Dry with a soft cloth
Or leave it upside down on a rack to air-dry. Try not to leave it soaking in a full sink.
How strong are the figures?
Baked polymer clay is firm and durable with gentle care, so everyday use and careful washing are fine. It is still a handmade piece with small details, so a hard knock or a fall onto a tiled floor can damage it, just as it would any ceramic mug.
- Don’t stack other mugs or plates on top of it.
- Keep it away from the edge of shelves and counters, especially around small children.
- Hold it by the handle or the body, not by the figures.
- To dust a mug on display, use a soft, dry brush or a slightly damp cloth.
