Birthday gift ideas, sculpted for one person

A good birthday gift tells someone you have been paying attention. Not to their wish list, but to them: the way they wear their hair, the hobby they disappear into on a free afternoon, the colour they always end up choosing. That is the idea behind a Polymer Hands birthday mug. A tiny version of the birthday person is shaped by hand from polymer clay in our Lahore studio, fixed onto a real mug and baked so the clay sets. Nothing is printed and nothing comes from a mould, so no two birthday mugs are the same.

Which mug suits which birthday?

For a sister, brother, cousin or friend

A single-figure mug (from Rs 2,100) is one person doing the thing they love. For a sister, that might be her with a stack of books, a paintbrush, a cup of coffee and her favourite flowers. For a brother, a cricket bat, a gaming controller, football kit or a bike. The scene is what makes it a birthday gift for them rather than a gift for anyone.

For a child

A kids / cartoon mug (from Rs 2,100) suits little ones: dinosaurs, princesses, superheroes, or the child themselves in their favourite outfit. Cartoon faces with eyes and a smile are made on request, and they suit children's mugs well.

For someone proud of their work

For ammi, abbu or an older sibling who has just started a job, a profession mug (from Rs 2,200) shows them in uniform with the tools of the job. And if the birthday person prefers something simple, a name mug (from Rs 1,900) spells out a name, an initial or an age in clay letters, with no figure.

For twins or a shared celebration

Two people fit on a couple mug (from Rs 2,400) and three on a family mug (from Rs 2,700). Extra figures are Rs 300 each, up to eight figures in total.

What details should you send us?

When you personalise the mug you can upload up to five reference photos. Clear, front-facing pictures help most. Then tell us:

• Hair and face details: hairstyle and colour, glasses, hijab, beard or moustache.
• Clothes: a favourite outfit or the colours they wear most.
• The hobby or prop: cricket, books, baking, travel, a pet, a guitar. If there is a pet, describe its coat pattern.
• Mug colour: glossy white, black, yellow, dark green or brown, or matte black, red, royal blue or dark green (matte is Rs 300 extra).

Our usual style is a blank face or a figure seen from behind, which lets the outfit and pose do the talking. If you would rather have a cartoon face, just mention it.

What should you write on a birthday mug?

Short text looks neatest in clay: their name, an age, "Happy Birthday" or a short line such as "Birthday girl". Urdu and English both work. Very long text is hard to keep tidy at this size, so we may suggest a shorter version.

How early should you order a birthday gift?

Every mug is made by hand in 7–10 days, then handed to a courier with tracking. Delivery is Rs 250 anywhere in Pakistan, and the courier usually takes 2–3 days after dispatch. The safe rule is to order at least 10 days before the birthday, and earlier if the parcel is going far.

If the birthday is less than 10 days away, message us on WhatsApp at 0335-4602621 before you order. We will tell you honestly whether we can make it, and we will not promise a date we cannot keep. Before your mug leaves the studio we send you a photo of it. If you are posting it straight to the birthday person as a surprise, remember that with the Rs 500 advance option the rest is paid in cash on delivery, so you may prefer to pay in full by bank transfer.

Making the gift complete

A mug pairs well with the small things they already love: their favourite tea or coffee, a box of something sweet, a handwritten card.
